You people who commented on my last post have reinforced my faith in humanity. Here is your Kudos, as promised.
I must agree with my housemate and encourage you all to vote for Dean--maybe we can get rid of that cursed Patriot Act. Okay, I'll concede: I secretly, like all Democrats, want Bush to win this election. Not because I like the bastard--lord knows he's destroying our environment, economy (stock market rallies don't really count if they aren't benefiting the right people, and no long term jobs are being created), and foreign policy. No, I'm hoping for another four years of Bush because it will de facto be his last (unless he snuck some clause into the Patriot Act that we don't know about), and then we can gear up for HILLARY in 2008! WOOHOO!
Hold on, I got my tongue stuck in my cheek. But seriously, how can anyone support Bush here, unless you're a wealthy oil company CEO or something? Okay, so the man is pro-life. Good for him. But why do we need to keep making more babies when we can't take care of the ones we've got?? Enter Dean, whose state (Vermont) provides health insurance to 100% of children. Did you get that? 100%. Maybe we could start reallocating some of the $87 billion we've been blowing in Iraq to useful things like health care and education. I mean, come on you conservatives--this man is spending like no Democrat we've seen in years, and people like him why? If we are going to increase discretionary spending out the roof, let's be a little more...I dunno, discretionary?
And don't get me started on how horribly "left" Dean is. I suppose people are referring to his stance on gay marriage or something. Oh holy zombie jesus! We must make sure the gays don't marry! Lord knows what they'll do then...stay monogamous!? But that would shatter the religious right's pristine image of homosexuals as promiscuous and more sexually frightening than...a black man!
I don't really have all that much to say presently, but I thought I would just drop a note on the ol' blog to say hullo if nothing else. Fortunately for all of you, I'm going to say something else as well.
Classes have begun at UTC, and my favorite part of school down here is being able to light up right after class. Bliss. I'm really enjoying my American Lit class. You'd all be proud of me. Just a few months after declaring myself no longer a Calvinist, I've been defending the Puritans (Bradford, Bradstreet, Rowlandson) vehemently against the attacks of the liberal, secualar, academic mind. They weren't such bad people, after all, right?
I have a job at the Ramada Inn--I'm a desk clerk. I also today found out that I've gotten a job at the local TBN station on the mountain. So I'm going to have to figure out how to juggle two part time jobs that require me to work some graveyard shifts. Eh bien, the life of a working college student. I like it.
Meanwhile, my dad called me the other day and says he wants to help me with school. This is good news. One of the few benefits that has cropped up now that my parents are getting divorced. I guess I'll just take my former roommate's advice and be as pragmatic as possible throughout all this.
Kornman and I have moved into our new house, which is delightful. I decided today, after watching my favorite movie for like the 800th time that I'm going to put more work into decorating the place like "the house on Archer Avenue." Kudos to those of you who get the reference. I might even put a red flag with a big "T" on it right on the roof. Quis sciat?
Well, that's about all for now; it was good to see some of you yesterday when I was on campus. Keep the faith. Au revoir.
